ECHO BAY - On June 4, 2018 at approximately 7:21 p.m., members of the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft of gas that occurred in Bruce Mines, Ont. Officers were provided with a description of the vehicle, male and direction of travel.
At approximately 7:45 p.m., Sault Ste. Marie OPP located the grey pick-up truck traveling West on Highway 17, Echo Bay, Ont.
The officers conducted a traffic stop and as a result of further investigation, Jared James White, age 41 of Hamilton, Ont. was arrested and charged with:
• One count - theft under $5,000 contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
• One count - possession of break in instruments contrary to section 351(1) of the CC
• Three counts - possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
• Driving while under suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
The accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on June 5, 2018.
