G1 driver from Brampton accused of driving with cannabis readily available in Huron Shores

A Brampton man has been charged in Huron Shores after officers say they smelled burnt cannabis in the car.

On Monday shortly after 8:30 a.m., police report observing an eastbound vehicle speeding on Highway 17 in the Municipality of Huron Shores.

Police say while speaking with the driver, the officer detected an odour of freshly burnt cannabis and the driver could not produce a valid driver's license.

As a result of the investigation, Nicholas Smith, 26 from Brampton, was issued four provincial offence notices and was charged with:

  • Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
  • Driver fail to surrender licence, contrary to section 33(1) of the HTA;
  • Class G1 licence holder - unaccompanied by qualified driver, contrary to section 5(1) of Ontario Regulations 340/94 of the HTA; and with
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available, contrary to section 12(1) of the Cannabis Control Act.
