Traffic stop leads to impaired charge

 

BLIND RIVER – On February 12, 2016, officers from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police were on regular patrol duties on Causley Street in the town of Blind River.

 

At 1:15 a.m., police observed an eastbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and a traffic stop was initiated. As result of the investigation, police determined the driver had been consuming alcohol and that there was open liquor in the vehicle.

Gerry LIVELY, 46 years of age, from Worthington, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

  • Drive Motor Vehicle with More Than 80 Milligrams in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code; and
  • Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act.

He had his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on May 5, 2016.

The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving.  Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call 9-1-1 immediately.

Male charged with several offences

BLIND RIVER – On February 4, 2016, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a mischief that had occurred in a parking lot of a local recreational facility in the town of Blind River. The complainant told police that a male known to his girlfriend became physically assaultive towards his vehicle causing damage and uttered threats before he was able to leave the area and call police. 

On February 10, 2016, the 38-year-old male, from Blind River was located, arrested charged with:

  • Assault , contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code;
  • Mischief Under $5,000, contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code;
  • Uttering Threats-Cause Death or Bodily Harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;
  • Causing a Disturbance, contrary to section 175(1)(a) of the Criminal Code; and
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie on February 11, 2016.

OPP charge male with domestic-related offences

BLIND RIVER - On February 5, 2016, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of several domestic related occurrences that occurred between June 2015 and December 2015 in Blind River and Mississauga First Nation. 

On February 9, 2016, the 28-year-old male, from Blind River was located, arrested and charged with:

  • Assault - Spousal , contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code;
  • Obstructing Justice, contrary to section 139 3(a) of the Criminal Code; and
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance (X8), contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie on February 11, 2016.

Female charged in collision

BLIND RIVER – On February 9, 2016 at 4:17 p.m., a male pedestrian was pulling his daughter in a wagon and was eastbound on Causley Street.  The pedestrian was struck by a moving motor vehicle attempting to exit a laneway to access Causley Street.  The female driver of the vehicle stopped and asked the pedestrian if he was okay and left westbound and turned onto Woodward Avenue.

The pedestrian was transported to the local hospital for his minor injuries that he had sustained.  His daughter was not injured.

Police located the vehicle and charged the driver Diane DIAZ, 60 years of age, from Blind River with: Fail to Remain, contrary to section 200(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on March 23, 2016.
