Four more arrested in January Espanola shooting investigation

ESPANOLA - Members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made additional arrests in relation to a Jan. 21, 2021 shooting incident on Albert Street in Espanola, in which one person was injured. Three people were charged following the incident.

After further investigation, four more people were arrested and charged April 22, 2021.

Damien Bourcier, 39 years of age from Espanola, was charged with:
    •    Assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    Disguise with intent, contrary to section 351(2) of the CC
    •    Robbery using firearm, contrary to section 344(1)(a.1) of the CC
    •    Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC
    •    Firearm - use while committing offence, contrary to section 85(1)(a) of the CC
    •    Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC

Tyler Gaudreau, 38 years of age from Espanola, was charged with:
    •    Assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    Disguise with intent, contrary to section 351(2) of the CC
    •    Robbery using firearm, contrary to section 344(1)(a.1) of the CC
    •    Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC
    •    Firearm - use while committing offence, contrary to section 85(1)(a) of the CC
    •    Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC

Lindsey Thiboutot, 36 years of age from Espanola, was charged with:
    •    Assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    Disguise with intent, contrary to section 351(2) of the CC
    •    Robbery using firearm, contrary to section 344(1)(a.1) of the CC
    •    Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC
    •    Firearm - use while committing offence, contrary to section 85(1)(a) of the CC
    •    Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC

Michael Guay, 42 years of age of Espanola, was charged with robbery - using firearm, contrary to section 344(1)(a.1) of the CC.

All four accused persons will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Espanola on April 23, 2021.

The investigation remains ongoing with members of the OPP Manitoulin Detachment Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. Also assisting in this investigation is the OPP Forensic Identification Service (FIS) and the Centre of Forensic Sciences (CFS).
