Fatal structure fire under investigation near Blind River

The Office of the Fire Marshal, along with other agencies, is investigating a fatal structure fire that occurred on Monday morning on Mississagi Bay Road In Huron Shores (between Iron Bridge and Blind River).

The identity of the deceased has yet to be confirmed, says a news release issued by East Algoma OPP.

MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES - One person has been located deceased after a structure fire on Mississagi Bay Road in the Municipality of Huron Shores.

On Feb. 6, 2023 shortly after 9 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment responded to the fire, along with the Mississauga First Nation Police Service and the Huron Shores Fire Department.

The identity of the deceased has not been confirmed at this time.

The East Algoma OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, is continuing to investigate, with assistance from the OPP's Forensic Identification Services Unit in conjunction with the Office of the Fire Marshal, the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
