5:15 p.m. update
WAWA - On Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018 at approximately 10:19 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East (Wawa) Detachment responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 approximately 15 kilometres south of Wawa in Lendrum Township, Ont.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that a southbound vehicle collided with a northbound vehicle. The northbound vehicle carried five occupants, all of which were transported to the hospital with varying degrees of injury. Two of the five occupants have since passed away. Two occupants in the southbound vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene, while the other two occupants were transported to the hospital by Algoma Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Also assisting at the scene, were members of the Wawa Volunteer Fire Department.
At this time, the names of the deceased are being withheld pending next of kin notifications. The investigation remains ongoing with the assistance of OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI).
Highway 17 has been re-opened in both directions.

Highway 17 North just south of Wawa is now open to traffic. Additional information regarding this collision will be posted once it becomes available.

WAWA - On Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018 at approximately 10:19 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East (Wawa) Detachment responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision located on Highway 17 approximately 15 kilometres south of Wawa in the Lendrum Township District of Algoma.
The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) are assisting with this investigation.
Highway 17 remains closed in both directions.
