A 36-year-old Elliot Lake man was arrested after it is alleged that he stole a log skidder and ended up running over his own truck with it.

A news release issued today by the the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) states an investigation began after Gaetan Henry reported his pickup truck stolen from the Hat Lake area north of Elliot Lake on Friday. The next day, a log skidder was reported stolen from a business in the same area.

OPP investigation determined that Henry’s pickup truck had gotten stuck on a logging road bridge. Police say the accused took the skidder in question, attempting to use it to free his truck, when he lost control of the vehicle and drove over his pickup truck. It was at that time that police say he reported his pickup truck stolen.

Henry stands accused of theft over $5,000 of a motor vehicle, and public mischief.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 6.
