Driver fled crash scene near Heyden: OPP

The Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is looking to identify a driver involved in a collision that occurred early Saturday morning on Highway 17 near Heyden, states a release issued today.

The vehicle involved is described as an older dark-coloured SUV with front-end damage. The driver fled the scene before police arrival.

On Saturday, March 5, 2022 at approximately 12:50 a.m., members from the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles on Highway 17 in Aweres Township.

Investigation determined a pickup truck was travelling on Highway 17 at approximately 12:10 a.m. when it collided with an older model SUV that entered Highway 17 from MacIntyre Road.

The driver of the pickup truck pulled off the highway and spoke with the driver of the older SUV. While police were being called, the driver of the SUV left the scene.

The SUV is describe as being an older darker-coloured SUV with front-end damage. The driver is described as being an older female with long dark hair, eye glasses and a medium build. When the SUV left the scene, it was leaking either washer fluid or coolant.
