Driver charged with impaired near Bruce Mines

Temiskaming Shores man had his driver's license suspended, vehicle impounded.

Police have charged a 32-year-old Temiskaming Shores man with impaired driving following a traffic stop near Bruce Mines last evening.

A news release issued today by East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) states that officers responded to a complaint regarding a possible impaired driver at approximately 8:37 p.m.

Responding officers detected a strong odour of alcohol while speaking with the accused, and spotted open beer inside the vehicle.

Full text of the OPP news release follows:

TARBUTT-TARBUTT ADDITIONAL TOWNSHIP - On April 21, 2021 at 8:37 p.m., East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members received a call of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17 eastbound close to Bruce Mines.

A vehicle description and plate number were provided to police. The complainant reported that the vehicle was all over the road, weaving in the lane and crossing the centre line.

Police located the vehicle a short time later and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was spoken to and a strong odour of alcohol was detected emanating from their breath. Additionally, open beer was located in the vehicle. As a result, the driver was arrested, driver's license suspended, and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

Randy Price, 32 years of age from Temiskaming Shores, was charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on June 3, 2021.
