Driver charged with impaired, assault peace officer and more

BLIND RIVER - On Feb. 21, 2017, shortly after 7 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on the Territory of Mississauga First Nation.

Police located and stopped the vehicle on Birch Street in the Town of Blind River. The officer determined the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverage and was arrested. While police were dealing with the female driver she (allegedly) assaulted an officer.

As a result, Jasmine Wright, 27 years of age, from Blind River, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired-Motor Vehicle (Alcohol) , contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Driving with More than 80 milligrams of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC;
  • Assault a Peace Officer, contrary to section 270(1) of the CC; and
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance, contrary to section 145(3) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on Feb. 23, 2017.
