A Thessalon driver has been charged following a single-vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 17 Friday evening.

A news release issued today the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reports that officers responded to the incident shortly after 10 p.m. in the Municipality of Huron Shores.

The release states that 40-year-old Christopher Garvey of Thessalon lost control of his vehicle before it came to rest in a ditch.

It is alleged that the accused neglected to report the incident to police, but instead enlisted the help of a family member and a friend to remove the vehicle from the ditch.

Officers found the accused walking towards Thessalon and charged him with:
    •    Driving while under suspension - while suspended under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) section 41/42, contrary to section 53(1.1) of the HTA
    •    Fail to report accident - specific location, contrary to section 199(1) of the HTA

Garvey is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 16.
