Ontario Provincial Police are reminding residents that it is illegal to launch personal boats or watercrafts at public beaches or non-designated boat launches.

The reminder comes after police responded to a complaint on St. Joseph Island yesterday, regarding individuals launching a watercraft on Beech Beach via all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and 4x4s

Police have also issued a warning that anyone boating or seadooing in a swimming area creating a safety issue for swimmers could face a fine of $430 for operating vessel in a careless manner.

In a press release issued this morning, police are also reminding parents and youth that no one under the age of 16 is permitted to operate a PWC, regardless of supervision. The operator may face a $125 fine and the owner who allowed the operation may face a $305 fine, OPP say.

OPP encourage you to check with your municipality regarding designated boat launches and safe lake access areas.
