Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant results in numerous charges

Police seized numerous firearms and ammunition, a significant amount of suspected marijuana, a quantity of suspected cocaine, a quantity of suspected hashish, a significant number of suspected LSD tabs, over $1,800 in cash, numerous cell phones, and drug paraphernalia

SPANISH - On Dec. 5, 2017, at 3:13 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a residence on Brennan Harbour Road in Spanish, Ont. to execute a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) warrant.

Members from the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), East Algoma Crime Unit, Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), Emergency Response Team (ERT), the Canine Unit, and uniform members were involved with the investigation.   

As a result of the warrant being executed, police seized numerous firearms and ammunition, a significant amount of suspected marijuana, a quantity of suspected cocaine, a quantity of suspected hashish, a significant number of suspected LSD tabs, over $1,800 in cash, numerous cell phones, and drug paraphernalia. The following person was charged:

Novica Grujic, 48 years of age, of Spanish, Ont., was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking - over 3kg, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking - under 3kg, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CDSA,
  • Breach of firearms regulation - store firearm or restricted weapon, contrary to section 86(2) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC, and
  • Unauthorized possession of a Firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the CC.

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. on Dec. 7, 2017.
