Complaints lead to charges for three drivers

Three drivers face charges after three separate weekend incidents

TARBUTT-TARBUTT ADDITIONAL, Ont. - On August 18, 2017, shortly after 4:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint where a vehicle was forced onto the shoulder on Highway 17, within the Tarbutt-Tarbutt Additional Township.  

Police observed the westbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 17 and initiated a traffic stop.

As a result of the investigation, Cynthia Nelson, 52 years of age from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:

  • Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act; and with
  • Fail to Have Insurance Card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

TARBUTT-TARBUTT ADDITIONAL, Ont - On August 18, 2017, shortly after 6:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint where a vehicle was cut off by tractor trailer on Highway 17, within the Tarbutt-Tarbutt Additional Township. 

The complainant had a dashcam in his vehicle that recorded the incident. Police reviewed the footage, located the tractor trailer and initiated a traffic stop.

As a result of the investigation, Brian Stevenson, 55 years of age from Blind River, Ontario, was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Change Lane- Not in Safety, contrary to section 142(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES, Ont. - On August 19, 2017, shortly before 4:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint where a westbound vehicle was force off the road by another vehicle on Highway 17 near the Town of Thessalon.

Police observed the westbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 17 in Johnson Township and initiated a traffic stop. As a result of the investigation, Cynthia Meskis, 60 years of age from Hamilton, Ontario, was charged with: Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act.
