Collision with pole leads to driving charges

THESSALON - On Mar. 14, 2017, shortly after 3:30 p.m., members of the East Algoma Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 east of the Town of Thessalon.   

Investigation determined a vehicle was travelling westbound on Highway 17. The vehicle left the road and collided with a telephone pole. The female driver was transported to the local hospital in Thessalon with non-life threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Joanne Beres, 34 years of age, from Manitowaning, Ontario, was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:

  • Careless driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and
  • Drive motor vehicle - no license, contrary to section 32(1) of the HTA.
