Truck ends up in the water. Impaired charges follow

MACDONALD - MEREDITH - ABERDEEN ADDITIONAL TOWNSHIP - On June 21, 2017 at approximately 8:45 p.m., Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint regarding an erratic driver travelling westbound on Old Highway 17.  

At 8:49 p.m. while en route, OPP were advised that the pickup truck had drifted over into the eastbound lane and into the south ditch striking five steel poles and 30 feet of guardrail, continuing until making impact with the water at the lower Echo River Bridge.

The driver and two young passengers, ages 11 and 7 years old, were transported to hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle had to be towed.

As result of further investigation the driver, David Joseph Pigeau 41 years old, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. was arrested and charged with:

  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Care or control of a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(b) CC

The accused was released on Promise to Appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on July 24, 2017.
