Charges laid in 2015 Elliot Lake sexual assault investigation

ELLIOT LAKE, ON - The East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the North East Region Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Mark Zulinski of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), with the assistance of investigators from the Sûreté du Québec Police, are continuing their investigation relating to a female who was assaulted on Nov. 1, 2015 in Elliot Lake, Ontario. 

As a result of the investigation, on Mar. 31, 2017, 26 year old Derek Robertson, who is from Elliot Lake, was arrested and subsequently charged with:

  • Sexual Assault, contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC
  • Disguise with Intent, contrary to section 351(2) of the CC
  • Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking, contrary to section 145 (5.1) of the CC

He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on Apr. 5, 2017.
