Boat crash ends in assault. Police rescue stranded couples

A boat crash near the Township of the North Shore ended in assault, police say.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to a 911 call on an island south of the North Channel Yacht Club shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

In a press release issued today, police report that two couples in a small boat crashed into an object shortly after 11:00 a.m.

One of the occupants became irate, and physically assaulted their spouse as well as spat on the two other occupants in the boat, police say.

Police located the occupants on the island and transported them back to the main land. 

As a result, a 45-year-old from the Township of the North Shore was charged with:

  • Assault - spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the CC (two counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 8, 2021.
