Blind River woman calls 911 - Wants police to stop her from driving

BLIND RIVER - On Nov. 3, 2017, shortly after 4:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a 911 call where an intoxicated female wanted to drive a vehicle at a residence on Hamilton Street in the Town of Blind River. The female wanted police to tell her she should not drive.

Police attended the residence and observed a female in the driver's seat. As the officer approached the vehicle the female opened the door and fell out. 

While speaking to the female the officer determined the female had consumed alcohol. The female was arrested and a search of the vehicle located an empty bottle of alcohol on the passenger floor and the vehicle keys were in the ignition.

The female was transported to local hospital where she was assessed and released into police custody.

As a result of the investigation, Donna Barr, 62 years of age from Blind River, Ontario was charged with:

  • Care or Control While Impaired (Alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and with
  • Care or Control Over 80 milligrams, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Dec. 7, 2017 in the Town of Blind River.
