ATV operator charged with impaired in Thessalon

MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES – East Algoma OPP say they've arrested someone for impaired driving after an incident that took place earlier this week.

A news release issued today states that officers responded to a call shortly after 11:30 p.m. last night in regards to an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) that was stuck in a ditch on Highway 17 near Pine Ridge Road east of the Town of Thessalon.  

After investigation determined that the driver had consumed alcohol, police arrested Randy Macdonald, 45 from Thessalon First Nation. He was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and with 
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.    

The accused had his driver's licence suspended and the vehicle was towed and impounded.  

He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 1 in Blind River.
