Accused charged with attempted murder after OPP respond to weapons call near Spanish

SABLES-SPANISH RIVERS TWP - On May 23, 2020 at approximately 12:34 p.m., members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation Police (APS) and the Sudbury-Manitoulin Emergency Medical Services (EMS) received two separate 911 calls regarding a weapons call on Lee Valley Road, Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.

Daniel Cyr, 56 years old of Sables-Spanish Rivers Township, was arrested without incident and charged with:
    •    Attempt to commit murder with firearm contrary to section 239(1)(a.1) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice - Bail Court in Sudbury on May 25, 2020.

The investigation, being conducted by the Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identifications Service (FIS), is ongoing at this time. Further charges on the accused are pending.
