21-year-old accused of kicking vehicle, stealing liquor in Thessalon

On April 8, 2020 shortly after 11:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded a domestic dispute at a residence on Bay Street in the Town of Thessalon.

Investigation determined a couple had been drinking. The other partner became intoxicated and left the residence. Once outside, the accused kicked the complainant's car and threw the vehicle keys in the bush. While police were interviewing the complainant, it was learned the partner had taken a bottle of liquor. Earlier, the accused had spat and threw a drink in the complainant's face.

The complainant's partner was located short time later, arrested and lodged overnight until sober.

As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old from Thessalon, Ont., was charged with:

  • Assault - spousal - two counts, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Uttering threats - damage property, contrary to section 264.1(1)(b) of the CC;
  • Theft under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Aug. 6, 2020.
