Suburban Montreal private school badly damaged in late night five-alarm fire

DORVAL, Que. — A private elementary school in a suburb of Montreal was heavily damaged by fire Sunday night.

The Montreal fire department has yet to determine what caused the fire, which began at around 9:30 p.m. at Academie Sainte-Anne in Dorval.

No one was hurt in the five-alarm fire, but it caused damage estimated in the millions of dollars.

At the time of the fire, the school had been closed for weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The school has been in existence since 2015.

The building used to be home to Queen of Angels Academy, which opened its doors in 1959.
