Peel police still investigating Brampton incident after false alarm

BRAMPTON, Ont. — Police west of Toronto say they have identified three women, rather than a woman and two men, allegedly involved in an incident that was initially investigated as an abduction.

Peel Regional Police say they are still probing the Brampton, Ont., incident that's believed to have involved a physical clash between at least two people.

The police force clarified several key details about the incident throughout the day on Sunday, including the gender of the suspects and the severity of the altercation.

Police previously reported that a witness had seen a woman being dragged into a black Audi and heard her call for help just after 10 a.m.

Later on, the force said the incident was no longer being investigated as a kidnapping, because they believed the woman was driving a red vehicle and was not pulled into the Audi.

After 3 p.m., a news release from the police force said three women and the vehicles involved in the incident had been identified after reviewing video evidence and receiving help from the public.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
