TORONTO — Ontario reported four new COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday evening, bringing the provincial total to 13.
The new figures come as the province saw its largest single-day spike in new cases.
There were 100 new COVID-19 cases announced in the morning, putting the total in Ontario at 688.
Provincial health officials have said increasing numbers of new cases in this period are expected, as so many Canadians return from abroad.
A backlog of people waiting for test results remains at over 10,000.
Ontario's finance minister delivered a fiscal update on Wednesday that will provide $2.1 billion in support to the province's health-care system as it responds to the COVID-19 pandemic.
