KINGSTON, Ont. — Police say crews are still working to repair and remove parts of a train that derailed in an industrial area of Kingston, Ont., on Wednesday.
Local police have said several rail cars left the tracks around midday, but there were no reports of injuries.
Police say residents in the area were initially asked to stay indoors, but they can now leave their homes.
Officers are still requesting that members of the general public stay away from the area.
Photos from the scene show some cars on their sides but no smoke or fire.
Canadian National Railway Co. said Wednesday the train belongs to the company and crews were heading to the site of the incident.
Kingston Transit says a number of bus routes were being detoured.
A spokesman for Kingston Police said the track in question is a "spur line" that branches off a main corridor to serve a single client.
In this case, the client is an industrial plant that manufactures nylon yarn, a process that involves chemical production.
"To our knowledge, there's no injuries," said Const. Ash Gutheinz.
Police said they were investigating whether there are hazardous materials involved.
A spokesman for CN said the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
"CN crews are responding to an incident involving a CN train in Kingston, Ont., near Bath Street and Queen-Mary. There are no reports of any injuries or fires at this time," Jonathan Abecassis said in a statement.
