London, Ont., police officer charged with assault after off-duty incident

LONDON, Ont. — A London, Ont., police officer has been charged with assault in relation to an off-duty incident.

London police say the 43-year-old officer and the female victim had been involved in a relationship.

The incident is alleged to have occurred between November 2018 and February 2019.

Police say the incident was reported on Thursday, at which point the officer was charged and released with conditions.

To protect the woman's identity, police have not released the officer’s name.

London police say the officer has 16 years of service and is currently on an administrative leave.

He is expected to appear in court in London on Aug. 20.
