Environment Canada issues snowfall warnings as storm hits Ontario, Quebec

OTTAWA — The first significant snowfall of the winter is expected to hit much of southern Ontario and Quebec today.

Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings or weather advisories for a swath of Ontario stretching from London to Ottawa.

Forecasts call for anywhere from seven to 15 centimetres of snow in more western regions, with higher accumulations expected further east.

The snowfall warnings say that between 15 and 20 centimetres of snow are expected in Ottawa and Gatineau, Que., this afternoon and evening before tapering off Monday morning.

All of Environment Canada's Quebec South region is under a snowfall warning, including Baie-Comeau, Charlevoix and the Laurentians.

Other areas with snowfall warnings include the areas around the Ontario communities of Bancroft, Smith's Falls  and Barry's Bay.
