AURORA, Ont. — Police north of Toronto have upgraded a murder charge against a woman arrested in connection with a fatal house fire in Aurora, Ont.

York Regional Police say they were called to the burning home on July 27 and found the body of a man inside.

Officers arrested 36-year-old Melissa Galea later that day and charged her with second-degree murder in the death of 38-year-old Troy Stephen Oakley.

They say that based on new evidence, the charge against Galea has now been upgraded to first-degree murder.

Investigators say she has also been charged with arson, six counts of uttering threats and failure to comply.

Police say she is set to appear in court on Thursday.
