WOODS Fannie Maria

One of Wawa’s oldest residents, passed away at the Lady Dunn Health Centre on Thursday February 11, 2016 in her 101st year.  Fannie was born to the late Walter and Sara Wright on January 16, 1916 in Campbell Township, Manitoulin Island.  She attended Grimsorte Public School and Gore Bay High School.  Fannie was married in 1936 to Stanley Howard Woods who predeceased her in 1970.  They had five children.  She was a good friend and had a kind word for all who knew her, and was always available when needed, night or day.  Fannie always talked fondly about her working years at Haman’s Red and White and the many people she got to know while being there.  During her retirement years she maintained good health which allowed her to travel to Europe many times, Canada and the United States were also on her agenda.  Fannie was predeceased by her son Morley in August 1996.  She is lovingly remembered by her children; Kathleen (Bill Moore) of Parry Sound, Douglas (Elizabeth) of Wawa, Peter (Dorothy) of Chatham and Barry (Joan) of Strathroy.  Proud grandmother of 15, great grandmother of 25 and great great grandmother of 6.  Fannie is survived by one sister, Joan Stewart of Cornwall.  Fannie will be sorely missed.  Friends may visit at the P.M. Gilmartin Funeral Home (140 Churchill Avenue, Wawa, 1-800-439-4937) on Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.  A funeral service will be held at the First United Church on Monday February 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Mrs. Lorna Chiupka officiating.  Spring interment at Woodland Cemetery, Wawa.  Memorial donations made to the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxillary, Branch 429, Wawa or to the Lady Dunn Health Care Centre-Extendicare would be greatly appreciated by the family.  www.gilmartinfuneralhome.ca
