Passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at the Sault Area Hospital at the age of 90 with her furry friend Sami on her bedside.  

Beloved wife of the late William "Bill" Wight.  Loving mother of Howard (Virve), Greg (Anne), Debbie, Gary, Leslie (Norm), and Jamie; mother-in-law of Gaye.  Proud grandmother of Cephas (Myriam), David (Elsen), Esther (Mark), Matthew, Sarah, Peter (Marija), Shawn (Whitney), Becky (Dan), Deon (Jon), Katie, Evan, Liza, Ryan (Alicia) and family friend Gerry; great-grandmother of Seth, Liam, Charlotte, Walter, Lavina, William, Braham, Eric, Alexander, Lincoln, Taylor, Jake, Emily, Kyle and Cameron.  Special thank you to the Nurses of 1B and Dr. Culina for their care and compassion.

Shirley was the first female graduate of Algoma College and she went on to be a Special Education Teacher with the Central Algoma Board of Education until her retirement.  Following retirement Shirley and Bill traveled extensively.  Shirley had tremendous compassion for the disenfranchised and demonstrated this by providing tutoring to Mexican children while travelling.

A private family celebration of Shirley's life will be held at a later date.  Memorial donations made (payable by cheque or online) to the SAH Foundation or the Alzheimers Society would be appreciated by the family.  Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East 705-759-2522).
