Peacefully passed away at Sault Area Hospital on Monday, March 29, 2021. He is survived by his children, John (Madelaine), Angelica Gayle Verdecchia (Walter), Helmut (Joanne), Chris Marcinkowski (Victor), Tom (Darline) and their mother, Elfriede. Brother of Zita Rickershenrich (Hans) and niece Connie Vlahos. Son of the late Balys & Berta. John will be dearly missed by his long-time companion, Lois Hill and her family. He leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 7 great-great children.
John was a hard-working volunteer right to the end and in his lifetime, this included many organizations such as St. John's Ambulance, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Sault Area Hospital, Lady of Good Counsel Church and many others. For over the past 20 years, he has been a Grand Knight with Knights of Columbus Council 13655.
Thank you to all the doctors and caregivers at SAH 3B and 3C who did everything possible to make his final days more comfortable. Thank you also to the Red Cross, doctors and caregivers over the past years for their care and compassion.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday March 31, 2021 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church with Father Paul Conway officiating. Respecting public health measures, a maximum occupancy of 60 people will be able to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to ARCH, Sault Area Hospital Cancer Clinic or any of the above-mentioned charities would be greatly appreciated (payable to or online to).
