Passed away on Sunday, March, 22, 2020.

She was born into the roaring twenties, to a banking family in Grimsby England, Followed shortly by the crash of ’29 and the depression, her family kept Grimsby humming throughout.  Then, the Second World. Betty was evacuated for the duration of the War. She often talked fondly of this time.  All the kids were together, learned gardening along with academics.  She developed a fierce sense of independence and a determination to become a chemist, then a doctor and anesthesiologist, interning at the famous Guys Hospital in London, specializing in Anesthesiology at McGill and, then on to Toronto Sick Kids Hospital and, luckily for all of us, came to Sault Ste. Marie as an original founder of the Group Health Center.  She will be missed. Betty was predeceased by her husband Kauko Ujanen, her Sister Monica Sharp, her parents Charles Stanley Allen and Violet Mary Allen and, step-son Hannu Ujanen. She is survived by her niece Althea Quinton, her nephew Clive Sharpe, and step-son Kari Ujanen. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.  Memorial contributions payable by cheque or online to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.  Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East 705-759-2522).  Please visit Arthur Funeral Home website obituaries to leave memories and condolences as a keepsake for the family.
