August Fernard Tomas passed away peacefully at the Sault area Hospital (Palliative Care Unit) with his family by his side on Sunday, March 16, 2003 at the age of 75. Beloved husband of Dorothy Anne for 52 years. Proud and loving father of Deanna (Bill), Nancy Witty (Gary), Susan Morrow (Michael), Debra, Marlene (Jeannine), Steven (Mary) and Charles. Devoted grandfather of Jason (and very special Dad) (Lisa), Jada, Jody, Krista, Erin (Luke), Steven (Ginger), Teri, Catherine, Michael, Danny and Sarah. Dearly loved great grandfather of Emily, Elias, Alecia and Avery. Predeceased by his parents Stipan and Pauline Tomas. Brother of the late Mickey McCarnen (George Ravlich) (Jack McCarnen), late Leo (Anita), Buck (Therese), Phyllis Sarfi (Fred) and Mary Brown (late Forest). Son-in-law of the late Fred and Victoria Jones. Brother-in-law of Leona (late Bill) Smith, Frances and Bud Smith, Bill and Brandy Jones, David and Kay Jones, Helen Varcoe, late Fred Jr. (Sonny), late Emma Oliver, late Robert and the late Charles (Joan). Uncle and friend to many. Fern worked for the Algoma Central Railway for over 40 years and retired in 1988. He loved railroading, storytelling, his horses, gardening and working with wood. At Fern's request, there will be no visitation. A private memorial service will be held on Friday, March 21. Memorial contributions to the Sault Area Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
