(August 17, 1937 – August 24, 2016) – Passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice at the age of 79. Born in Botwood, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late Walter and Elsie (Rice) Swyers. Roy joined the Armed Forces at a very young age, stationed in France; Trenton, Ontario; Ottawa, Ontario and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where he retired from the forces after putting in 23 years. Roy then moved to Bellville, Ontario where he was employed by Workwear and later transferred to Sault Ste. Marie where he retired. Roy liked to keep busy so after a short while at home, he decided to take on part time jobs with Air Canada and Canada Post, where he worked till he became too ill to carry out the duties he came to love. Surviving Roy are his two daughters Lorna (Brian) of Brooks, Alberta and Karen of Sault Ste. Marie. Loving grandfather of Melanie (Len), Randy (Britney), Marie (Aaron), Jenna (Chann), Teri, Jeremy (Kayla), Matt and Jessica. Great grandfather of Raidan, Jude, Rayne, Skyla, Anika, Tannaya, Markiela, Aidan, Kieran, Hannah, Destinee and twins due in December. Also survived by his sister Betty of Halfiax, Nova Scotia, brothers Warrick (Ruth) of Logy Bay, Newfoundland, Ron (Lorraine) of Orillia, Ontario and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Roy is predeceased by his parents Walter and Elise, his loving wife Jessie, his son Jim, his sisters Pansy Thompson and Fronie Shea, brothers Bruce and Allan and niece Rosalyn Thompson. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Monday, August 29, 2016 from 10 am until the time of the funeral service in the chapel at 11 am. Rev. Patrick McManus officiating.
