SWEENEY Rose

1936 - 2022
On Tuesday, June 14, 2022, God called our beloved Rose Elizabeth Sweeney back home.

The daughter of Thomas Edward and Angeline Rose Sweeney, originally of Sault St. Marie, ON. Rose was the loving partner of Beverly Egan for 63 years and devoted mother of Brian (Suzanne). Cherished by her Grandchildren Brian Jr. (Sabrina) and Angeline (Bobbie), and adoring Great Grandmother of Wyatt, Noah, Nathan and Emma. Survived by her siblings and their spouses: Louise (late Robert), Anna, Mary, Gary, Dan (Jane), Michael, Allan, and predeceased by Robert, John (Pat), Raymond (Posy), and Gloria. Rose will be deeply missed by the many members of the Egan family and her memory will also be cherished by her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Rose began her working life as a Private in the Canadian Armed Forces at a very young age, followed by a long, successful career with CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency).

Rose’s love and generosity knew no bounds; a woman with many diverse interests including a passion for Theatre, Opera and all music. Upon her retirement from CIDA, Rose and Bev enjoyed many years travelling together, searching for ‘Lady Luck’ at the Casino and spending happy, memorable times with their family.

Special thanks to Niece Lynne Egan for her loving support of Rose over many years. The family also wish to thank the Doctors, Nurses and the rest of the Team at the 3rd floor ACE unit, Queensway Carleton Hospital for the care and compassion they gave Rose on her final journey.

“Her journey has just begun, life holds so many facets, this earth is only one. Just think of her as resting from the sorrows and the tears, in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years. Think how she must be wishing that we could know today, how nothing, but our sadness can really pass away. Think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched, for nothing loved is ever lost that was loved so much.”

Friends may pay respects at Kelly Funeral Home (Carling Chapel 2313 Carling Ave, Ottawa, ON, K2B 7G3, 613-828-2313) after 10:00am on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.
