With heavy hearts the family announces the passing of our mother at Algoma Manor surrounded by her family, at the age of 91. She was an only child born to Alice and Ed McAvoy in New Toronto, Ontario. Beloved and devoted wife of the late Lloyd Sturgeon for 64 years. Much loved mother of Raymond Sturgeon ( Alice ), Carolle Herrington ( Mel ), Gail Gardiner ( Murray ), Brenda Leach ( Bud ), John Sturgeon ( Tina ), Alice Radley ( Jim ), Debbie McClelland ( Wayne ), Jennifer Lynn ( Don ), Ted Sturgeon ( Mitzi ) and Cyndy King ( Kevin ). Special grandmother to 26 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren. Loving mother-in-law of the late Fred McCaig and Robert Walker. Mom was raised in Bruce Mines. After she and Dad were married they lived in various communities but spent most of their years in Thessalon where they raised their family. Most would remember her days at Thessalon IGA where she was a faithful employee of the late John and Edna Kasch, and the Sears Order Office in Thessalon where she worked as manager until her retirement. The family would like to thank the staff at the Thessalon Hospital and Algoma Manor for the care and kindness Mom received as a resident there. Friends may call at the Beggs Funeral Home, Thessalon on Wednesday February 27, 2013 from 7 to 9pm. Funeral service in the funeral home chapel on Thursday February 28 at 11 o’clock with Pastor Charlie Martin officiating. Spring interment in Pine Grove Cemetery.
