STEVENSON, Peter Lewis

It is with great sadness that the family wishes to announce the passing of Peter Lewis Stevenson who died peacefully on May 14, 2002 at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Michigan after a valiant struggle against emphysema and cancer. Born July 23, 1919 in Kingston Ontario, he was the only son of Dr. Lewis and Helen Stevenson (nee Campbell). Pete attended Lincoln School, New York City, Upper Canada College, Toronto, and Queens University, Kingston before enlisting in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941. He attained the rank of Flying Officer and was attached to RAF, Squadron 166 as a bomber pilot with 99 operations during World War II. During his service he received the 1935-45 Star, Air Crew Europe Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, War Medal 1939-45 and Mentioned-in-Despatches. He was awarded the RAF Operational Wings for gallant service in action against the enemy. Married to Doris Joyce Huntley in 1944 (predeceased in 1989). Pete enjoyed 45 years of journalism, gardening
