Passed away peacefully on October 17, 2018 surrounded by his family at ARCH at the age of 87.  George was born in Malona, Rhodes, Greece on April 13 1931 to Emmanuel and Eula Spahis. He came from humble beginnings to Canada to pursue his dreams. With very little education he became a welder and in 1961 he worked on the international bridge. To him this was the greatest accomplishment. George was an excellent gardener making this his most fulfilling hobby. Not only growing wonderful produce and flowers but getting equal satisfaction by generously giving most of it away to friends and family.  First and foremost George was a man who loved and received his greatest joy from his family. He leaves behind his wife and best friend of 62 years, Stella.  Loving father of Harriet Rawlings (Bob) whom he also considered his son. Proudest of proud Papou to Lucas (Jen) Sgouraditis and Jordan (Renee) Sgouraditis with his sweetest happiness coming from the great grandchildren Jarrett, Abigail, and little Brookie.  Special Papou to Jeff Rawlings, Owen Rawlings and Payton Brown.  Brother to the late Yanni, Steve and Antoni Spahis and sisters Toula Kalambihi and Paraskevi Ampelas of Greece. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins. His loving, kind nature, generosity and silly humour will be missed but never forgotten. Many thanks to all those who were involved in his medical care. Also to family and friends that were always there supporting us.  May his memory be eternal.  Friends are invited to St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church (293 St Georges Ave E) on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 9 am – 10:45am.  Funeral mass to follow at 11 am. Memorial contributions to ARCH, Tracy's Dream, or SAH Cancer Clinic will be greatly appreciated by our family.  Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E).
