SCHMITZ, Gertrud (Gerda)

(October 29, 1935 – September 23, 2016) - Peacefully at St Joseph’s Hospital in Elliot Lake on Friday September 23, 2016.  Gertrud Schmitz of Walford, Ontario in her 81st year, beloved wife of Josef Schmitz for 62 years.  Loving mother of William Schmitz ( Tammy ) of Walford, Petra Piel ( Ferdinand ) of Germany, Joseph Schmitz ( Sylvia ) of Walford, Peter Schmitz ( Janet ) of Walford and Frances Weatherley ( Randy ) of Burlington.  Special Oma to Sebastian Piel, Alex Piel, Christopher Piel, Pamela Solomon ( Jason ), Alex Schmitz ( Cheryl ), Stephanie Schmitz, Kenn Schmitz ( Nicole ), Russ Schmitz, Sharleen Weatherley, Kathryn Weatherley, Kirsten Weatherley and Dalton Weatherley.  Great Oma to Acadia, Nyssa, Corin, Mathias, Kara and Zachary.  Daughter of the late Peter and Christina Schnitzler.  Dear sister of the late Peter Piel.  Funeral service will be held at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Walford on Monday September 26, 2016 at 11 am followed by interment in Walford Cemetery.  Donations to the Walford Community Centre gratefully accepted.  Funeral arrangements entrusted to Menard Funeral Home, Blind River, Ontario.  www.menardfh.com
