Peacefully passed away, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Algoma Residential Community Hospice. Beloved husband of Norma. Loving father of Cecilia Lavergne (Tim), Ron (Sistina) and Bonnie Kyle (Dan). Cherished Papa of Nicholas (Young Ji), Nicole Boldirev (Drew), Miranda Kuzmicki (Dan), Michael (Ashlie) and Thomas (Cara). Great Papa of Zachary and Zoey Boldirev, Jackson Kuzmicki, Ronny Roy, special angel Ava Grace and Penelope Roy. Son of the late Damase and Arlina Roy. Dear brother of 12 siblings. Joe had a particularly close relationship with his sister Monique. Brother-in-law of 10. Joe was passionate about sports, especially hockey, in which he enjoyed coaching children for many years and the Inside Out Flyers in the men’s hockey league. He also enjoyed fishing with his best friend Gordie. Joe and Norma were married for 63 wonderful years. They were exemplary parents and partners during life’s struggles and achievements. Joe spent many hours playing cards with family and friends and bringing joy to others with “Papa” jokes. His humour lives on through his children and grandchildren. There are many reminders of Joe’s love for woodworking at our homes, that he and Norma built together. He spent many happy years operating heavy equipment in the lumber industry. At Joe’s request, a private family gathering has taken place. Memorial donations to ARCH would be greatly appreciated by the family. Special thanks to Dr. Banks, Dr. Beduhn and Dr. Buehner, the PSW’s and caregivers Diane and Jenny, nurses Mike and Lillian and Brad Jarratt, Nurse Care Co-ordinator at LHIN and to the staff and volunteers at ARCH for their care and compassion shown to both Joe and his family. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
