Richard (Dick) Rougeau - Obituary (1)

(April 20,1935 – September 22, 2016) - It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Dick, best friend and soul mate to the love of his life of 61 years, Rosalind; devoted father to Anthony (Marisa), Laura (Jim), Guy (Nim) and Richard; much loved grandpa to Jason (Amanda), Alexander (Chelsea), Zachary (Indira); Great Grandpa to Kadence, Hayden, Jacob and Audrey. Good friend to Nick Vossos.

Dick was a remarkable man who was a master of all trades. He was a visionary who took his dreams and made them a reality.  From his many building and renovation projects, including his dream home, he always had something on the go.  One of his biggest dreams that he realized was the beautiful apartment building he designed and constructed for retirees in Richards Landing.  He was a self-taught man, whether he was at the sewing machine, cooking a meal, building a boat, or doing car repairs – there seemed to be no limits to his talents.  He was a selfless man, always taking time to help friends and neighbours throughout his life. Dick always led by example. He was the “go to guy”.  He retired from Algoma Steel as a supervisor, where he was respected and well liked by his coworkers, many of whom he developed solid, longstanding friendships with.

Dick always enjoyed social gatherings and loved to share stories and tell jokes. We will certainly miss his sense of humour.

We would like to express special thanks to those at Van Daele Nursing Home who cared for Dick and went above and beyond to make him and our family comfortable during his time there. Dick believed in supporting local charities and donations to the Sault Ste. Marie Brain Injury Association, in his name, through The Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road 705-945-7758), would be appreciated. As per Dicks wishes there will be no funeral service and celebration of life will be limited to family.  www.northwoodfuneral.com.
