1939 - 2021
Passed away suddenly but peacefully at home on Monday, April 12, 2021 at the age of 82. Beloved husband and best friend of Lynda. Loving father of Travis (Tracy), Tammy (John Cleary), late Steve (M.J. Smith), Mark Trudel (Lisa Damignani) and Donna (Chris) Alton. Proud grandpa of Dave Reid and Christina Damignani (Matt Barbeau) and proud papa of Riley, Olivia and Aidan Reid. Predeceased by his parents Edna and Leslie Reid. Brother to Barbara (late Andy) Desaulnier, Shirley (late Wayne) Frazier, Arleen (Ernie) Bondarenko, Wayne (Linda) Reid and Bob (Anne) Reid. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Gary will be fondly remembered by extended family and many friends, including his life long friend Ken Cameron as well as Robin Horwath and his extensive trapping family.
Gary was born and raised in Desbarats, Ontario and raised a family in Bar River. Gary started trapping at the age of 12 when he caught his first muskrat and was an avid trapper and outdoorsman for 70 years of his life. After he retired from Algoma Steel, he spent 25 years working on his registered trapline where he loved to spend time with his wife and family. Gary was very active in the Ontario Fur Managers Federation since its inception in 1996 and served as an Assistant Director and Director on the Board.
He will be forever remembered for his kind heart, sparkling blue eyes, and easy laughter.
Due to the current pandemic, there will be a private family service. Thank you to the Sault Ste. Marie Paramedics, Police Services, and Dr. Lisa Perry. Lynda would like to thank her loving family at O'Sullivan Funeral Home for their care and compassion.
