It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Arja at the age of 78. Arja was born in Lahti, Finland to the late Hannes and Aliina Hamalainen. Devoted wife to the late Tauno Rantanen. Cherished mother to Anita Pucci (Franco) and the late Kenneth "Kenny" Rantanen (Sarah). Loving Mummi to Michael (Alyssa) and Amy (Davide). Dear sister to Seija (late Matti), the late Pauli and the late Ilmari "Iippo". Arja is survived by many relatives throughout the United States and Finland. Arja was everyone's "best friend" and her friends are too many to list.
We remember Arja for her generous nature; she always put everyone's needs before her own. She loved to spend her summers at camp entertaining family and friends. Though a long time resident of Canada, Arja was very proud of her Finnish heritage and we all enjoyed her pulla and piirakkas.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E., 705-759-2522) from 11:30 am until time of service in the chapel at 1:00 pm. For those not able to attend, family and friends are invited to view the service online starting Friday, May 20, 2022 at 1:00 pm. The service can be viewed anytime up to 90 days.
