It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Walter Peterson on Sunday May 29, 2022, in Sault Ste. Marie Ont. at age 90. Left to mourn is his wife Margaret (nee Wright) and his sons Andrew Peterson and Mark (Leslie) Peterson. Grandfather of Cory Peterson and Brittney Peterson.

Son of the late Lillian Peterson (nee Curry) born in Northern Ireland and Andrew Albert Peterson born in Norway. Brother of Phyllis (late Ray) Lefave.

Brother-in-law of the late H.J. ‘Jack’ Wright, late Grace Wright, and the late David F. Wright.

Uncle to Karen Lefave, Kevin (Kim) Lefave and Michelle (Norman) Clement.

Also, Uncle to Margaret (late James) Clark, Patricia (Dan) Robineau, Harriet (Steve) Walenius and Elizabeth (nee Wright) (Gary) McLelan of Vancouver Island B.C. Long time friend of Elgin Harten (late Glenda).

Albert lived a full and robust lifestyle and embraced it with boundless energy.

He loved airplanes, motorcycles, boats, cars and was very social.

He was fortunate to have loving and attentive parents. From an early age he worked alongside his father in an electrical business.

He spent 32 years at Algoma Steel retiring in 1987, as maintenance foreman in the coke ovens department. From there he would enjoy many summers working at Hawk Air - a fly in tourist outfitter in Northern Ontario. He had an avid love of nature and all wildlife, large and small. Al was not a hunter.

Like most, Albert was a kind and caring man, giving freely of his time and many talents. He enjoyed giving silver dollars to people young and old, and he always had dog biscuits for his furry friends.

A highlight was when he drove his young family to Disneyland California for a 4-week adventure of a lifetime in 1971.

Another highlight was spending daylong boat trips in his Boston Whaler exploring the shoreline of Lake Superior from our summer place at Michipicoten Harbour.

Albert's last three years proved to be his most difficult. Now faced with memory problems, loss of independence and cognitive decline he presented a challenge to both himself and his bedside caregivers at the F. J. Davey Home.  He left us with many memories.

A Funeral Service will take place Saturday September 17, 2022, at 3pm at Willowgrove United Church (53 Tilley Road Sault Ste. Marie). Helen Smith officiating, with music for our enjoyment by Michael Connell.

Refreshment to follow. Please join us for conversation and some reminiscing.

  Interment in Greenwood Cemetery
