Dorothy Anne Perry passed away peacefully October 4, 2016 at the age of 91. Born February 16, 1925 in Toronto, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late Rosine Mandia and Pietro Lima who’d immigrated to Canada from Sicily, Italy in the early 1900s. As a young woman, she helped her parents operate the family’s fruit and vegetable market. She was predeceased by her siblings, all residents of Toronto: Nancy Dent (Walter), Josie Bockus (Ernie) and Thomas Lima. Dorothy was also predeceased by her husband, Arnold Joseph Perry (October 22, 1921 to January 14, 2008) whom she wed at St. Peter’s Church in Toronto on July 23, 1947. They relocated to Sault Ste. Marie, the home of the Perry (Perri) family, in August 1952. Upon her husband’s passing, Dorothy became a resident of the F. J. Davey Home. She is survived by her children: Peter (Barb) of London and Marianne (Bud Carruthers) and Barbara of Sault Ste. Marie. Dorothy also endured the loss of two infant daughters, Catherine Rose (June 15, 1949 to January 7, 1950, Toronto) and Anna Marie (December 22, 1958 to June 29, 1959, Sault Ste. Marie). She was the cherished grandmother of Mitchell and Randi Butcher, Joseph and Allison Seeber and Peter and Roseanne Perry and great-grandmother to Vanessa Shaver. The family acknowledges the devotion of Randy Butcher, Marie and Joseph Caputo and Lori and Dean Matthews. The family would like to express its gratitude to the paramedics and extraordinary staff at the Sault Area Hospital who tended to Dorothy during her final days. In particular, Dr. Don MacIntosh, Dr. Nadia Bowen and Dr. Sharon Buehner and the nurses from the Emergency Department and 3B & 3C Medical Unit. Thanks to Father Hamish Currie for his prayers. A private family graveside service has been held with interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre. Memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Dorothy dedicated her life to God and loved her family above all else. She suffered from Vascular Dementia for years yet remained gracious and thankful.
