Eli Micheal Palmer was a man of unmatched dignity, with an unquenchable love of family, and a gentle generous spirit that ensured all who came in contact with him felt welcomed and respected.  Known for his competitive nature, in his earlier years, dad raced speed boats, snow machines, and motorcycles. He also competed in body building championships.  Exercise was a way of life for dad and his daily workouts continued until he was admitted to hospital.  He was an avid outdoorsman and loved his time at Mile 77 fishing/hunting camp.  Dad was a real life “MacGyver” with the ability to fix/repair anything from automotives, to barbies, to broken hearts.  He was the “swim” taxi.

His passing on Monday January 15, 2018 has left a deep void in the lives of our family, and all who knew him.

Born in Montreal, Quebec  to Anne Holowachuk and Harry Palmer on September 21, 1932.  He was the 3rd of  7 children and is survived by his sister Cecilia Chorney of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and his sister Ann Barkley (Ron) whom he loved and cherished with all his heart.

In 1954 he married the love of his life Lena Adduono (his “Bubbles”) who has been at his side for 63 years.  Their time together was shared with their 8 children; Brian (predeceased), Sabrina Merrett (Paul), Eli Jr., Cheryle (Ric Thomson), Mark (Mary), Brad, Mary-Jo Capriata  (March Cuglietta), and Roylene Bowden (Josh).    “Wonderful papa” was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; Krisha Anderson (Ryan), Travis Merrett (Nancy), Jillian Thomson (Drew Postlethwaite), Erica Thomson, Mark Jr., Morgan, and Nathan Palmer, Samantha Palmer, Jessica and Jordan Capriata, Lauren and Maiya Bowden; Ella and Axl Anderson, and Malcolm.

Dad will be so sadly missed by his sister-in-law and brother –in-law, Rosita and Lloyd Mulcahey whom he visited weekly, donuts in hand, talking hockey, “Go Leafs!” (Lloyd will miss those forehead kisses).  Special uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Heartfelt gratitude to Sault Area Hospital for the care dad received from the moment he arrived. Special thanks to Kelsey (Triage), Jennifer (ER), Dr. Mohammadi, Dr. Shafiee, Rob (Porter), Jeff B.(3A-Step-Down), Justine (ICU), Dr. Ghosh and Dr. Berg.  Dad was grateful for the care, respect and dignity you all provided.

In keeping with dad’s wishes there will be no visitation.  Following cremation, there will be a private family service.
