It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Siro at the Sault Area Hospital on Saturday, July 10th, 2021 at the age of 66.

Beloved husband and best friend of Giuliana (Julie) Minelli (Spadafora). Loving father, “Babbo” of Tanya (Fabiano) and Marco (Monique).

Son of the late Marco and Rina Minelli. Dear brother of Sandro Minelli (Adeline), Son-in-law of the late Domenico and Irene Spadafora of Italy, Brother-in-law of Luigi Spadafora of St. Catherine's, Romilda Cesario (Ubaldo) of Italy, Rosalia Minelli (late Gabriele) of Italy, Maria-Rosaria Dellonti (Daniele) of Italy, Antonio Spadafora (Valeria) of Italy.

He was loved and will be fondly remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy. Especially remembered by Pina Minelli (late Giulio), Agostina Patterson (Stephen), Justin Minelli (Jaimee), Krista Minelli (Daniel), Franco and Franca Gioia. In Italy he will always be in the heart of Giuseppe Papi (late Maria), Gianna Papi (late Onesto), Lorenzo Minelli, Giuliano Minelli (Cecilia), Lisa and Agostino Minelli (Deborah). He will also be sorely missed by his beloved, faithful boxer Orio.

Siro was born in the beloved little town of Cerreto (Cagli) in the Marche region. He immigrated to Canada in 1963 at the age of 9 but had never forgotten his origins. Although living in Canada, his fond memories of family and friends from Italy always remained close to his heart. He will always be remembered as a friend to all and as a person who believed in family. He loved to entertain everyone by sharing his stories of the good old days.

He was a well-known devoted business owner of Minelli's Restaurant which his father Marcello and uncle Dario founded in 1951 on James Street. He had a true passion for hard work. His strong work ethic and dedication to bring authentic homemade Italian food to all alongside his brother Sandro allowed the business to expand. He was extremely proud to serve the Sault and continue to honour the 70-year-old Minelli’s restaurant legacy.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sault Area Hospital for their kindness, support, and compassion. A special thank you goes out to the doctors and nurses of unit 300C, Dr. Spadafora and Dr. Bowen.

A private service will be held in his memory.

Donations to the Sault Area Hospital Cancer Clinic or SSM Humane Society (payable online or by cheque) would be greatly appreciated.

“It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone. A part of us went with you, the day God took you home. If tears could build a stairway, and heartaches make a lane, we’d walk our way to heaven, and bring you back again. In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still, in our hearts you hold a place no one could ever fill.”
