July 9, 1923 – September 13, 2022

After 99 years of life as we know it, Joy Mills (nee Thomson) has just peacefully joined the only love of her life, her husband, Kenneth Mills (1922 – 1995).

Hard to imagine so many memories of such a long-traveled road through a century of changes to the world, her world, and her life. Fortunately, a good life that led to a well-earned final chapter, that she, surprisingly to some, understandable to others, was now looking forward to; laying down her weary soul. Thankfully, peacefully. Now, a time to rest.

Joy was the youngest and last surviving member of the Thessalon First Generation Thomson family, consisting of her predeceased siblings and spouses; Margaret who passed at age 19 of pneumonia, Bert (Eleanor), Lloyd, Gerry (“Toots”), twins, Jack (Edith) and Jim and Don (Marj). Fondly remembered by the local Thomson nieces and nephews Jim Thomson, Nancy Maniacco, Margie Connolly, Harold Thomson and Nancy Kowalski.

Will be remembered but not forgotten by her children Tom Mills, Marney Lawrence (Ben) and Jeff Mills (Paulette), grandchildren Amy, Dani, Melanie and Dean as well as great grandchildren Audrey and Wade.

Our mom will be in the thoughts of family and friends.

Heartfelt gratitude and admiration for the often unrecognized and the stressfully overworked, but always kind, patient and thoughtfully humourous ladies and gentlemen of the Algoma Manor’s entire personnel. This world and life itself would be a much better and more peaceful place if we all had your gift of uplifting, non selfish sacrifice and caring empathy that each of you live and share everyday. Our family (and we’re sure many others) thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We’d also like to thank Merl Lawrence and Brooke Showan for their professional and thoughtful assistance during this time.

Lastly mom and her family sincerely thank the many lifelong friends and acquaintances of Thessalon and area who have known, shared, and often supported her though life’s many giggles and tears. Thoughtfulness in life is never forgotten.

With gratitude and if you wish, helpful gifts made be in tribute to Mom to Algoma Manor Foundation, Thessalon Curling Club (in need, and home of Mom’s much bragged about sixth ender), NSHN-Thessalon, or your choice of most need.

Take care and be thoughtful…even at 99 years, life is too short.

Family and friends will attend a graveside service at Maple Ridge Cemetery on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 1pm. Brian Mundell officiating.
