McKinley

On June 9th 2021, Lynne passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Cherished wife of Albert ‘Abbie’ for 64 years. Best mother and friend to Steve McKinley (Karen), Ian McKinley, Mike McKinley (Karen) and Jean McKinley (Marcel). Adored Grandma ‘g’ of Adam McKinley, Carly Johnston (Devin), Brett Johnston (Molly), Lauren McKinley (Evan) and Rachel McKinley. Best friend and big sister to Wendie Ackland (Terry), the late Phyllis Young (Earl) and the late Dawna Macgregor (Don). She was a loving Aunt to many nieces and nephews and a special ‘Ma’ to Jane and Sam Flaxey. Second mom, ‘Grandma Lynnie’, and a dear friend to so many.

Lynne had an endless compassionate spirit with a purpose of caring for others, dating back to her days as a Registered Nurse. First at the Plummer Hospital and later with the VON. After retirement, she continued to care for so many as it came so naturally to her. Her positivity, wit, sense of humour and genuine kindness and grace will always be remembered by all who loved her. Lynne had a gift of making everyone feel special, always taking the time to learn and remember names and details about anyone who was lucky enough to meet her, even briefly.

Lynne’s interests ranged from her performance days in the Sweet Adelines and local theatre, to her love for nature, long walks, gardening, reading, crosswords and Tai Chi.

At the end of her journey, Lynne was cared for at home by her dedicated ‘Team Hunnie’, led by her sister Wendie with support of her loving family and numerous friends and caregivers.

We want to give special acknowledgment and thanks to her amazing health care team including Dr. M. Leahy, Dr. N. Apostle, Dr. H. O’Brien and Dr. L. White. In addition, Home and Community Care, Bayshore Nurses; Susan and Mary Anne, the CBI staff; especially Elena, Dana, and Wendy, all who provided exceptional, dependable and compassionate care. We cannot thank enough all the friends and neighbours who provided visits, phone calls, food, and support through Lynne’s journey.

As per Lynne’s wishes, a private family service will be held followed by inurnment at St. Luke’s Columbarium. Friends are invited to a Come and Go Celebration of Life on Monday June 14th, 2021, from 1 – 4 p.m. at 97 Lake Street.

Donations to Willowgrove United Church or ARCH (payable online or by cheque) would be appreciated by the family. Visit the O’Sullivan Funeral Home website to leave condolences for the family. Arrangements entrusted to O’Sullivan Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 215 St. James St, 705-759-8456.
